On to our fourth and final Reader's Workshop Unit of third grade: Research Clubs!
There are three things the students will be assessed on this unit. Two of the standards have already been learned; therefore, I am really hoping to see great progress from the Unit 2 Post-Assessment compared to the Unit 4 Post-Assessment at the end of the year.

How to Check for Comprehension:
At the end of a chapter, or section of a book, ask yourself the following questions:
1. Who was in this part?
2. What just happened?
3. Does this part match with something I have already read? Or is it new information?

To find what reading level your books are, follow these instructions:
1. Google the book title, author and reading level.
2. Click on the Scholastic page that shows up in the search results. This page will tell you the Guided Reading Level of the book. This level is also called the Fountas and Pinell level.
3. Look at the chart below.
4. Find the row with your book's Guided Reading Level/Fountas and Pinnell level.
5. Follow the column to the left to find out what level that book is in Raz Kids.
For example: My book is called Charlotte's Web by E.B. White.
1. I type in Google: Charlotte's Web by E.B. White Reading Level
2. I click on the first link that shows up, which is: Charlotte's Web by E.B. White | Scholastic.com
The site tells me the Guided Reading Level/Fountas and Pinnell level is R.
3. I go back to the classroom blog to view the Learning A-Z Correlation Chart.
4. I look at the Fountas & Pinnell column and go to Row R.
5. I see that R is not on the chart, but since it is between Q and S, I can assume that the Raz kids reading level of this book is about V/W.
Make sure you are choosing "Within-Reach Books". These books don't have to be your exact reading level; however, they should be close to it. It is much more fun to read books that are "Within-Reach" -- not too easy and not too hard for us!
